The last Merseyside derby at Everton's famous ground descended into chaos as players clashed in a mass brawl at full-time after James Tarkowski had salvaged a late point. And footage from TNT Sports showed the Dutchman exchange words with Oliver before he gave the referee an angry handshake, leading Oliver to brandish the red card.

An incredulous Slot then moves towards the officials and appears to question 'being given a red for that' before gesticulating at Oliver as Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk tries to intervene. Slot was one of four to be sent off after the full-time whistle had blown, along with Assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff, Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure. Hulshoff was red-carded for furiously arguing with the referee over the awarding of Tarkowski's goal, which came after a lengthy VAR check for offside and also a potential foul in the build-up.

The issue appeared to be the cause of Hulshoff's fury. The Dutchman could be seen pointing to where the incident took place before he too was given his marching orders by Oliver. Liverpool midfielder Jones and Everton's Doucoure were also given second yellow cards for their role in the post-match fracas. Slot and Hulshoff's dismissals mean they will both be absent from the dugout when Liverpool host Wolves on Sunday.

Assistant first-team coach John Heitinga, who made 140 appearances for Everton during his playing career, will likely lead the team in the absence of Slot and Hulshoff. It also led to the cancellation of their post-match media duties as neither was able to appear for the press conference as a result of their red cards. The hosts made a fast start to a feisty last Merseyside derby at Goodison as Beto gave them the lead in the 11th minute.

Alexis Mac Allister's superb flicked header levelled the contest five minutes later before a dramatic second half. Slot looked incredulous and appeared to question what he had been given a red card for. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk also spoke to the officials but to no avail as Slot was dismissed. Mohamed Salah looked to have sent the Reds nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table but Everton had other ideas, Tarkowski firing a volley into the roof of the net in the 98th minute to rescue a point for the Toffees. 'Listen to [the noise from the stands], that's amazing,' Tarkowski told TNT Sports post match. 'These will remember it. I'm just proud of my team, stuck at it, they [Liverpool] didn't create much, and we got the goal at the end.'.
