There are so many incredible films and TV shows based on books that are set to come to screen in 2025. Last year saw some incredible books brought to life on screen including Netflix’s One Day, based on the novel by author David Nicholls, and It Ends With US by Coleen Hoover – which is still making headlines as the cast controversy continues. 2024 was a great year for adaptations, but 2025 might be shaping up to be an even stronger year.

For those who like to read a book before it’s on screen, here’s a breakdown of some of the best novels to add to your reading list before they are released on screen. The fourth Bridget Jones film is set to be released on February 14, 2025, and is based on the third novel of the same name in the Bridget franchise by the author Helen Fielding – originally released in 2013. The hype around the film has been huge and fans cannot wait to see what Renee Zellweger’s Bridget is up to now as a 51-year-old mum of two young kids.

The film focuses on Bridget’s search for love once more as she adjusts to life as a widow following the death of her beloved Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). The story is about a man named Mickey who reluctantly signs up to be an ‘expendable’ – a person who takes on dangerous tasks needed to colonise the ice world Niflheim. When one Mickey dies, another is cloned in its place with most of his memories intact, and one day an accident means there are two Mickeys. The film is inspired by a 2022 science fiction novel called Mickey7 by Edward Ashton which was met with huge acclaim.

The smash hit show Bridgerton is returning for its fourth instalment and this time will focus on the third eldest Bridgeron sibling, Benedict. The fourth season is set to be released on June 2025 but the exact date has yet to be officially announced. The season will focus on Benedict and is based on Julia Quinn’s third book in the Bridgerton franchise An Offer From a Gentleman, which was released in 2001.

In the book, a Cinderella-like story unfolds as Benedict meets a servant Sophie Beckett who manages to sneak her way into Lady Violet Bridgerton’s masked ball. Sophie is forced to be a servant to her evil stepmother, but will Benedict be able to set her free?. We Were Liars is a 2014 psychological horror young-adult novel by E. Lockhart. The book focuses on the Sinclair family who spend every summer on their private island. One year Cadence Sinclair suffers from a head injury that causes her to forget the events of that summer her 15th year.

Years later, Johnny, Mirren and Gat – known by the family as ‘the liars’ return and prompt Cadence to remember the incidents that took place. Prime Video has picked up this book and is set to release a series at some point in the Spring of 2025. The series stars Emily Alyn Lind, Subham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, and Joseph Zada. A sequel to the 1997 American slasher film is set to be released on July 17, 2025.

Starring Madelyn Cline, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Chase Sui Wonders, and Gabriette Bechtel, the cast is packed with talent. The original tale was loosely based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan of the same name, and it’s unclear just how the sequel will pick up the narrative told in the original film. The original tale focuses on a group of teenagers who are haunted by a mysterious murderer wielding a hook a year after a terrible incident takes place.

Regretting You is a 2019 novel by Colleen Hoover which is set to be adapted into a film to be released on October 24, 2025. Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco and Mason Thames will lead the cast of this movie which focuses on a mother and daughter, Morgan (Williams) and Clara (Grace), whose relationship becomes strained after the death of their husband and father. It is thought that filming will begin early this year with Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) directing and Susan McMartin (After) writing the script.

The Running Man is a dystopian thriller novel by Stephen King that was first published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1982. The film is set to be adapted into a film that will be released on November 7, 2025. The story is set in a dystopian US in 2025 with the the economy ruined and violence rising. The protagonist Ben Richards, participates in the reality show The Running Man which sees contestants try to win money by evading the team of hitmen sent after them – think Channel 4’s Hunted but with much higher stakes.
