A fire has broken out at the Chiltern Firehouse hotel in Marylebone just hours before Valentine’s Day dinner service. Around one hundred people have been evacuated from the building as firefighters work to put out the blaze, which ripped through the ground floor up to the roof. The Chiltern Firehouse is a luxury five-star hotel featuring 26 suites and an award-winning restaurant. Located on Chiltern Street, it occupies a historic Victorian fire station, originally built in 1889 as the Chiltern Street Fire Station.
The hotel is a popular celebrity jaunt and has been visited by a-listers including Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lawrence, Lady Gaga and Johnny Depp. London Fire Brigade said: ‘Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been called to a fire at a hotel on Chiltern Street in Marylebone. “There is a fire in ducting which leads from the ground floor to the roof of the four storey hotel with a restaurant on the ground floor.
“Around one hundred people have evacuated the building before the Brigade arrived. “The Brigade’s 999 Control officers were first called at 1452 and deployed fire crews from Euston, Soho, Paddington, Soho, West Hampstead, Kensington and Chelsea fire stations and are still at the scene. “The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”. Owned by hotelier André Balazs, who also owns the famous Chateau Marmont in L.A, the Chiltern Firehouse is an exclusive social hub. There is also a private entrance for VIPs.
