Patio weeds can be a real pain, not just unsightly but also creating a slippery danger zone on your decking - but there's an affordable and straightforward fix to get rid of them for good. These stubborn invaders can pop up due to various reasons and often require a lot of effort to eliminate.
But the folks at Lottomart have come up with a "DIY weed killer" recipe that promises to make the job a breeze. They shared: "With the right approach, you can deal with those stubborn weeds effectively. "This homemade weed killer, costing less than 70p per litre to prepare, uses just a few common household ingredients: white vinegar, table salt, and a dash of dish soap.
"You'll need a pressurised sprayer for the best application, but this solution is highly versatile and easy to make," the experts recommend. For a smaller concoction, simply mix 500ml of white vinegar with 30ml of table salt and a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Make sure to shake the mixture well before use to ensure it's fully mixed for optimal results, reports the Express.
They added: "For the best results, apply this solution on a dry day when conditions allow it to work at its best. "Within 24 hours, you'll notice the weeds beginning to wilt, and they should be completely dried out after 48 hours. This quick and easy method not only keeps your garden looking neat but also cuts down on the environmental impact and cost of commercial weed killers.".
The solution's effectiveness is due to the acetic acid in vinegar, which dries out the plant's leaves, while salt hinders water and nutrient absorption, essentially starving the weed. Dish soap serves as a surfactant, aiding the solution in adhering to the leaves for improved absorption.
