Sam Aston has revealed if he'll be staying on Coronation Street amid a cast exodus. Multiple people have quit or been axed from the ITV soap in recent weeks, with Gail Platt star Helen Worth ending her decades tenure on the soap on Christmas Day. Now, several other stars have exited the show including Charlotte Jordan and Colson Smith.
Ahead of the new series of Dancing On Ice, Sam - who plays Chesney Brown on the ITV soap - has revealed his own future on the programme and whether he'll be staying on the Cobbles. Speaking to The Mirror and other press, he said of his schedule: "I'm not filming right now, but I am there, I'm not like written out for this or anything like that. I have got a bit work in the pipeline coming up, so it'll just depend on how far I go.".
Discussing the multiple exits as of late, he added: "We’re in a period at the minute where a couple of the big characters are going. It's always been like that on the show with people coming and going. Obviously we have lost, with Helen especially, one of the icons on the show. 50 years, she was an absolute legend, you know, hats off to her. Enjoy your retirement. You deserve it.".
When it comes to his own future on the soap, Sam has admitted he'd love to reach the five decade mark and is already halfway there. "I'd love to do 50 years on Corrie. I mean I'm nearly halfway there. It's on the cards. We get 12 month contracts and I'm currently in another 12 month contract that's been a rolling thing for the last few years. I never rest on my laurels. I wouldn't like to think I’m irreplaceable. But as long as they want me and I’m enjoying it, I’ll stay.".
