All eyes are on David Tennant as he takes to hosting duties at this year’s BAFTAs - and we’re sure his wife, Georgia, will be cheering him on too. As well as appearing in the likes of Broadchurch and Good Omens, David, 53, is known for his role on Doctor Who, having starred on the show from 2005 to 2010. During his time on the hit series, the actor, who was the Tenth Doctor, appeared alongside actresses including Billie Piper, Catherine Tate and Freema Agyeman as they travelled in the TARDIS through time and space.
But in addition to introducing him to a whole new set of fans, Doctor Who has a more special connection to David as it’s how he met his wife, Georgia. Back in 2008, Georgia appeared on the show in an episode called The Doctor’s Daughter where she played the role of David’s genetically engineered daughter, Jenny. Her stint on the show isn’t her only connection to the sci-fi series, however. She is also the daughter of Peter Davison, who played the fifth incarnation of the Doctor from 1981 to 1984.
After meeting on the show in 2008, David and Georgia tied the knot three years later in a romantic ceremony on New Year's Eve 2011. Late last year the pair celebrated their 13th anniversary, with Georgia, 40, marking the occasion with a sweet Instagram tribute. “13 years of trying to get him to understand we both look better when he doesn’t take a selfie from below. #marriage,” she wrote alongside a black and white selfie of the pair.
Over the years, the loved-up couple have given fans a peek inside the romance and appeared on the That Gaby Roslin Podcast back in 2020 where they opened up about their life together. “I very much forced it into happening, didn't I?,” Georgia joked, adding that she was determined to win over her beau. David, who is 13 years older than his wife, added: “That makes it sound like I was resistant, which was not what happened. I thought we were an unlikely life partnership, I suppose. There is a bit of an age gap.
“Because Doctor Who had run through my life like a stick of rock, to end up marrying the daughter of one of the Doctors, it all felt a bit stupid... that wasn't really likely to happen. So there were a lot of things against it.”. More recently the pair worked together on the 2020 comedy Staged which saw David and Michael Sheen play fictionalised versions of themselves. “I really, really enjoy it. I mean, he’s the only person I ever really want to spend any time with, so the idea of getting to work with him,” Georgie told Fabric magazine when asked how it was working with her husband.
“I mean, I had the best time. I think maybe I didn’t know that I was going to. He’s such a great asset, he’s really supportive of me whilst in no way being patronising, which is all I look for really in a human being: nice and supportive.”. Prior to meeting David, Georgia was already a mum to son Tyler, whom she gave birth to back in 2002. The BAFTA host later adopted Ty, who himself is a talented actor.
During his career so far, Ty has appeared in War of The Worlds and House Of The Dragon - the hugely popular prequel to Game Of Thrones. In 2019, he also appeared in the film Tolkien where he played the young Christopher Wiseman. Speaking about his first time meeting David, Ty told Lorraine in 2020: “It was great, I was five when I first met my dad, my mum was working on Doctor Who at the time.” He added: “I watched him on TV as the hero, and it was crazy how much your life can change.”.
David and Georgia are also parents to Olive, Doris, Birdie and Wilfred. Like his older brother, Wilfred is a keen actor. In 2022, he appeared on BBC’s Casualty where he played a child who entered Holby City Hospital to find help for his pet gerbil. Georgia was ever the proud mum as she gushed over the news on X. “So proud of this glorious young person's TV debut. The Future Is Bright. #WilfredTennant,” she wrote. Meanwhile, during an interview on The Graham Norton Show in 2019, David opened up about being a father. “We have number five child on the way. It's very exciting. There is a big spread of ages, with a 17-year-old at one end,” he said.
