Kenny Lockhart was attacked in a shocking moment in the penultimate episode of Vera. The ITV show is ending after one final series, as Brenda Blethyn departs her role as DCI Vera Stanhope for good. Not much has been revealed about the final episode, which airs tomorrow evening.
However, in a shock twist at the end of tonight's episode, it was revealed that Lucas Corbridge had attacked DC Kenny Lockhart, who was put in charge of keeping an eye on Imogen's vehicle. Lucas was seen moving menacingly towards Kenny, before raising the rock and striking him over the head - but will fan favourite character Kenny die or will he survive the latest attack?.
At the end of the episode, it was revealed that Kenny was still alive and was being told to rest after the horrifying injury. It's not the first time DC Kenny has been attacked. In a previous episode, he was also struck over the head by the killer before Vera came to his aid, and he later returned to the team and continued to help crack the cases.
Speaking about working with Jon, Brenda shared: "One of the scenes is between Brenda and Jon Morrison (DC Kenny Lockhart) who has been with her throughout, aside from the initial pilot episode. "That scene, filmed in the middle of the shoot, was very poignant and it was performed brilliantly.".
Brenda also admitted it was tough saying goodbye to some of the core cast members, including Jon and Riley Jones, wjo plays DC Mark Edwards, as they had been there from the start. She said: "It felt extra special filming these final two films. We are all pretty close. Jon Morrison (DC Kenny Lockhart) has been there since the second episode of the first series and Riley Jones (DC Mark Edwards) came in on the fourth episode. It’s been a big part of their lives too. It’s sad saying goodbye to people in the cast and crew because they are so good, professional, and talented, and I love working with them. I wish there could have been an episode where I stayed at home in Kent: ‘Vera Goes South’. But, of course, the series is dyed in the wool Northumberland and the North East and I understand that’s where it has to be.
