A DRIVER has admitted mowing down and killing a "beautiful" nine-year-old girl as she crossed the road. Alice Williams was on a pedestrian crossing in Halifax, West Yorkshire, when she was struck by Qadeer Hussain. She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but sadly died four days later.

Hussain today pleaded guilty to causing Alice's death by dangerous driving on July 8, 2023. The youngster's parents held up a photo of their tragic daughter during the hearing at Bradford Crown Court. Judge Sophie McKone told Hussain that he faced an inevitable prison sentence for the offence.
The court was told the driver has no previous convictions. He was bailed until sentencing on May 2, with an interim driving ban imposed. Barrister Soheil Khan, for Hussain, said: "He knows that the tragedy in which his actions ended will mean an immediate custodial sentence.".
Alice's devastated family have now paid tribute to the youngster. They said: "Alice was a bright, loving and beautiful girl, who brought her family and friends joy every day. “We desperately miss her and will never be able to comprehend her shocking death.”.
Alice's headteacher at St Mary’s Catholic Primary Academy also released a statement following the tragedy. She said: "Alice was a genuinely lovely little girl. She was someone who was gentle, kindhearted, and full of smiles. “Her loss has left a huge hole in our school and our community, and we will continue to remember and honour her life. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.”.
