The driver’s road rage ended up killing Liam Jones, 22, who was out riding an electric bike with a friend on August 1, 2023. Abdirahman Ibrahim, 21, pursued Mr Jones and his friend in Sheldon, Birmingham, after the cyclist pulled a one-wheelie in front of his car.

The driver decided to ram into Mr Jones twice 10 minutes after seeing Mr Jones perform the wheelie to ‘teach him a lesson.’. Chilling footage shows how Ibrahim drove behind the pair on Coventry Road. He had been driving in the opposite direction, but he turned at a roundabout and started following the pair of cyclists.

After a terrifying pursuit, he drove into Mr Jones from behind twice. The 22-year-old suffered catastrophic chest and abdominal injuries. He died at the scene shortly after being hit. The pair tried to get rid of Ibrahim who was lurking behind them behind the wheel of his white Seat Leon, forcing them to go down a one-way street.

The friends were separated and the other rider managed to get away. But Mr Jones had nowhere to escape as Ibrahim rammed into him once on Moat Lane before increasing his speed to hit him again. After the second attack, Mr Jones fell off his bike and hit a concrete bollard.

Detective Inspector Nick Barnes, from the West Midlands Police homicide unit, said they believe Ibrahim ‘was angered by Liam’s showboating and wanted to teach him a lesson.’. ‘He knew what he had done and did nothing to help, instead driving off,’ he said.

Ibrahim then took off, driving over the remains of the bike before doing a U-turn. But he was not alone in the vehicle. His brother Abdullahi Ibrahim was a passenger in the car and Ibrahim stopped to let him out in Sparkbrook to catch a taxi at about 12.50am.

The brothers had casually stopped at a shop on Coventry Road despite ‘knowing they’d at the very least left someone badly injured,’ the police said. Abdullahi Ibrahim, also aged 21, returned to the car later which was parked near the Jewellery Quarter before taking another taxi home at 3am.

Detectives were able to trace Ibrahim to his home in the Yardley neighbourhood. The driver lied about where his car was, including that it had been parked elsewhere in the evening. Ibrahim was found guilty of murder after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday. He had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

His brother Abdullahi Ibrahim pleaded guilty to assisting an offender at an earlier hearing. The pair will be sentenced on March 26. DI Barnes said Ibrahim was ‘intent on causing harm to Liam. He could have turned off at any point but he followed the riders and wanted to be in control.’.

‘This was not a case of racing gone wrong as had been claimed by Ibrahim, but of him menacingly pursuing Liam and his friend,’ he said. ‘Tragically, Liam lost his life and Ibrahim will now spend many years of his own young life in prison. Ibrahim’s brother may have felt a sense of loyalty, but by trying to help his sibling he is now also a convicted criminal.’.
