Wesley Fofana is expected to be out for the rest of the season after Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca confirmed the Frenchman has suffered a fresh injury blow. Fofana has endured a torrid time since joining the Blues from Leicester City in the summer of 2022. Entering the current campaign, he had already missed 77 games through various injury issues.
The 24-year-old was sidelined again at the start of December when he hurt himself while stepping on the ball after challenging Ollie Watkins during the Blues' 3-0 win over Aston Villa. He has since missed their last nine games, which has coincided with Chelsea's dreadful run of form. They have failed to win any of their last three top-flight games, dropping out of the title race in the process.
Maresca has now revealed that he expects Fofana to be sidelined for quite some time in the wake of his latest setback. But he has, at least, confirmed he does not expect the Frenchman to be forced to undergo surgery. The Italian said: "Unfortunately Wes will be out for a very long time and Benoit [Badiashile] will be out for at least until February. No, not at the moment. For sure not Benoit and Wes not at the moment.".
He later dropped the bombshell news that Fofana was likely to be out for the rest of the season. The Chelsea boss was unable to confirm this for definite, but conceded the injury was worse than first feared. HAVE YOUR SAY! How should Chelsea line up against Crystal Palace? Comment below.
