Grantchester season nine is on its way, so exactly when does it come out, and who is joining the cast?. More than a year has passed since the Cambridgeshire-set detective drama was last seen on ITV with Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (played by Robson Green) and clergyman Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) working together to solve head-scratching crimes.
Now, with the show ready to return for more investigations on the horizon, here’s all there is to know about the upcoming ninth season of Grantchester. Grantchester season nine will debut on Wednesday, January 8, at 9pm on ITV and ITVX, consisting of eight episodes in total.
The ninth series is already available in America, having been released back in June 2024 on Masterpiece. Back as the show’s veteran star, Detective Inspector Geordie Keating is actor Robson Green, who has been in the drama from the very beginning. Actor Tom Brittney has been Green’s co-star as Reverend Will Davenport since season four, but it was confirmed last year that he would be leaving Grantchester in the ninth series.
Taking his place in the small crime-riddled town is Reverend Alphy Kotteram, portrayed by actor Rishi Nair, who is known for playing lawyer Sami Maalik in Hollyoaks for four years. Grantchester’s other usual suspects will also be in attendance, including Charlie Ritchie as Bonnie Davenport, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, Al Weaver as Leonard Finch, Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs Chapman, and Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe.
