Within 40 minutes of Gordon pulling out the firearm, armed police tracked him down and arrested him as he sat in a black Range Rover. He was found with the firearm, a magazine of blank bullets, a pick axe handle and two tasers. A later search of his home uncovered a live round of ammunition in his sink, leading to charges of possession of a firearm, ammunition without a license and two counts of possessing a Taser.
Gordon pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court, claiming he had the gun only for protection after he was robbed of £200,000. Sentencing Judge Amy Jacobs jailed him for five years, saying the incident resembled a ‘television soap opera scene’. West Midlands Police DS Matt Nightingale said: ‘Gordon brandished this weapon in full view of other members of the public and made no effort to conceal it.
‘Quick work by officers meant that we were able to quickly locate him and recover the gun. We’re committed to tackling gun crime – we’re taking weapons off the streets and putting those who carry them behind bars.’. A pair of brothers were previously jailed after trying to smuggle loaded guns in the panel of a microwave.
Cadien Pink, 41, and Edward Pink, 46, ordered one Taurus and three Glock-type pistols with 59 rounds of ammo from Florida. The guns, with the serial numbers removed, were posted to a business in Newham, east London, but were scanned by the US’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) branch.
Agents told the Metropolitan Police who arrested the Pink brothers and discovered a voice note on Cadien’s phone from a US contact, discussing the models and specifications of guns he had requested. Cadien, from Surrey, was jailed for 14 years and Edward, from Streatham, south London, received 12 years.
