Harry Kane has been told to snub former club Tottenham for Arsenal in an attempt to break the Premier League goalscoring record. The England captain left Spurs in the summer of 2023 in a big-money move to Bayern Munich. And despite having gone trophyless in his first campaign in Bavaria, Kane has still been in stunning form. He has scored an eye-watering 72 goals in just 73 appearances in all competitions since then. But Kane might not stay at the Allianz Arena for very long after it was revealed that a release clause was written into his deal with Bayern.
Premier League clubs are reportedly aware of the clause, albeit Kane is very happy with the German giants. Ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson has now urged him to become a Gunner and believes he could break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record with the side. Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson said: “I keep on saying Isak but there’s not a lot around. I’d go Harry Kane. I’d pay the £60-odd million for Harry Kane.
“I know it’s not my money. Like Sol Campbell didn’t (go to Arsenal)? If he thinks he can beat Shearer’s record at Tottenham, but I don’t see the point coming back to Tottenham. “There’s no point just coming back just to beat that and I don’t think he’d have as much of a chance of beating that than he would at Arsenal.”. Kane has already dropped a hint about wanting to replace Shearer at the top of the goalscoring standings. Speaking at his Bayern Munich unveiling, he appeared to suggest a Premier League return could be on the agenda.
Should Kane leave Bayern Munich? Share your thoughts in the comments below. He said: “People will talk about the record and Shearer, but I've got plenty of football left in my career. For now, it's about trying to achieve things here and trying to push myself and the team to try and reach new levels with this club. That's all my focus is on right now.”. But Kane has refused to publicly comment on the clause that could potentially see him seal a Premier League return. Speaking recently, he said: “What I can say is that I’m very happy at FC Bayern. No comment on the clause.”.
Kane will be back in action in midweek as Bayern attempt to claim a spot in the Champions League last 16. They take on Celtic in the first leg of their playoff showdown.
