THE FINAL WORD (3.05 Taunton, nap). Can win the argument for Paul Nicholls. There was a lot to like about his third on hurdling debut at Taunton last time. Harry Cobden didn’t get serious on him as he finished well enough into third. It’s interesting to see a tongue tie employed today which should aid his improvement on top of that promising effort. He’s bred to want this sort of distance and should take a decent step forward here.
LIARI (4.10 Taunton, nb). Can make it a good day for Nicholls in the west country. He has been running well in decent company and was third at Musselburgh last time after a decent effort at Newbury. He may not quite have lasted the 2m4f trip in Scotland and dropping back looks a wise move. The handicapper has helped too with a 2lb drop down the weights. ASK ME ANOTHER (2.05 Taunton, treble). Was rusty after nine months off when second at Huntingdon last time. She’ll come on a bundle for that effort and go one better here.
