A woman struggled to hide her excitement on social media after discovering an antique gem in a skip. Tina Foster, known as Hyper DIY'er on TikTok, hailed her find in a video as something that would have made her mum proud. "It's only now that I realise just how much my mum taught me but more surprising, how much knowledge this scatty brain of mine has kept locked away!" she said. Excited Tina added: "Over the moon! All thanks to my mumma." The clip began with her seen bringing home a table, which she revealed nearby builders had given her permission to take away. "I have a £3,000 table from a skip, unbelievable," she declared.
The furniture, a Danish teak coffee table designed by Peter Hivdt and Orla Molgaard-Nielsen, was immediately recognised by Tina, who shared: "I knew what this was as soon as I saw it. Fun fact - my mum and I used to wheel and deal in antiques and for most of my life she's taught me everything I know - she'd be so proud.". She suspects the table dates back to the 1950s or 1960s, meanwhile. "I've checked it all over and it is absolutely perfect. It needs restoring, but I will do that," Tina enthused. "The legs are fine and the rattan shelf is intact. I'm under no illusion that I'm going to get three grand for this piece - it is beautiful, but to actually get three grand for it is very unlikely. I'll do it up though and then it'll definitely be worth a nice bit of money.".
Tina wrapped up her post by showing off a screenshot from a website where the item was being sold as brand new, with a hefty price tag of £3,203.31. "Amazing find, you know what they say! Knowledge is power. Well done," one TikTok user said in response. Another chimed in: "It's pretty ridiculous what people throw away some have no idea of worth some simply just have too much money to care, good find." A third joined in the praise, saying: "Good job mum had great taste and taught you a good eye. She'd be very proud.".
Meanwhile, a fourth follower kindly offered: "I have the extending dining table to match. It's yours if you wanna drive to collect it." Grateful Tina replied: "I don't know if you're another troll but if not that's so kind, but I have a ton of stock to shift.". On the other hand, a sceptic commented: "Great find, but it's not worth £3k at all. Listed prices on Vinterior etc are extremely inflated prices. You need to search for sold listings apposed to asking prices. You're probably looking at £400.".
To which Tina retorted: "Thanks, but I know what I'm doing. If it was £4 or £400 I actually don't care. I salvaged a lovely bit of furniture and that alone makes me happy.". Whilst a second appeared relatively unimpressed, adding: "Maybe it's because I'm Scandinavian and have been exposed to a lot of similar furniture, but I find that type of wood, shape, style dreadful. And 3k, dream on - but good luck.".
