Fur coats are back in fashion, though they always technically are whenever winter comes around.  My latest obsession is Charlotte Simone’s Lulu Fur-Trimmed Jacket, after seeing it on Lila Moss out with mum Kate Moss. Inevitably, it is seriously pricey at £425, and out of stuck. So, in true bargain hunting fashion, I scoured the stores to find a similar alternative to the bohemian coat for less, and still in stock.

Introducing Superdry’s Faux Fur Lined Afghan Coat, which retails for £124.99. Yes, it is still a premium price tag, but it makes a saving of £300, and I’m not turning my nose up at that. The vintage-inspired Afghan Coat is short in length, as it sits on the hips, and offers a slim fit for a tailored look.Made from a corduroy fabric with faux fur trim around the neck, hem and sleeves. It features two split side pockets and hook fastening. The stylish piece comes in black, tan with cream fur, cream and chocolate brown. Available in UK dress sizes 6 to 16, though stock is selling out fast.

Superdry’s Faux Fur Afghan Coat emulates the tailored fit of Charlotte Simone’s sell-out Lulu coat, which is short in length and sits on the hips.  Though you can shop longline coats at Charlotte Simone for those looking for more coverage. The Faux Fur Afghan design is made from corduroy fabric for the body, and faux shaggy fur detailing. Whereas the designer alternative has been created from premium wool, and features an ultra soft Mongolian lambswool fur trim.

Charlotte Simone’s design is high quality, like all of her designs. The wool fabric also makes it warm, practical, but also ultra stylish. I love corduroy in the winter months as it is a thick fabric, not necessarily as thick as wool, but it is durable and insulating enough for the colder days. Plus, Superdry’s design has faux fur lining inside. I would style both coats the same way, with a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, or ruffle blouse to hone in on the 70’s bohemian style, and cowboy boots.  Though you could easily layer over a satin slip skirt and knitted jumper, or even a maxi dress.

Both Superdry and Charlotte Simone’s designs are perfectly suited to complement a casual daytime outfit or evening. It is also ideal for more glamorous affairs because of the chic vintage aesthetic, plus the shorter length doesn’t drown the wearer or ruin the outfit underneath. While both outerwear are ideal for winter, they will also see you through the spring and autumn months too. Whether you can get your hands on the original designer version, or you’re opting for the affordable Superdry alternative, it is a worthy investment you will get your cost per wear out of.

Considering Charlotte Simone’s coat has sold out almost everywhere, and comes with a hefty price tag, it’s a no-brainer to shop the affordable Superdry alternative in my opinion. At least I will be anyway. Need some convincing? Superdry shoppers are obsessed with the Afghan coat. One happy shopper gushed: ‘The coat is beautiful. I had an original Afghan coat from the 1970’s but that’s long gone. I had been looking for a faux fur version for a while and this one is perfect and warm.’.

Another added: ‘Beautiful coat, very well made and clearly made of sturdy materials. Very pleased.’. While other shoppers advised customers to size up in the coat, especially if wearing it over thicker layers. A separate customer weighed in: ‘Beautiful jacket very well made, slightly smaller for the sizing but not by much, can still wear it as a snug fit. Don’t need a jumper under as the faux fur lining is lovely and warm.’.
