Friday night's Death in Paradise saw the arrival of new cop Sebastian Rose (played by Shaquille Ali-Yebuah) to Saint Marie, sparking a divide among fans who took to social media to voice their opinions. While some viewers were thrilled with the fresh face, others clamoured for the comeback of Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles). Sebastian stepped in to fill the shoes of the recently deceased Benjamin (Anthony J. Abraham), who met his untimely end in the season opener.

Fans didn't hold back on a Facebook fan page, with one commenting: "It is so good to see another talented actor with a beautiful Caribbean accent.". Another fan hailed him as "The best addition," and a third remarked: "It is nice to see the new one is a rough diamond. As for his problem, as a team, they can deal with it.". One viewer expressed anticipation: "Officer Rose, looking forward to more of him," reports the Express.

Yet, there's a sense of nostalgia for past characters like Marlon, Fidel, and JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare), who made a surprise return in the first episode. Fans shared their longing online, with comments like "I would love to see JP back; I miss Dwayne and Marlon," and others missing characters such as Camille and Florence, with heartfelt pleas like "Bring back Marlon, please.". The Saint Marie police force has also welcomed a new lead detective, Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet), who revealed he'd be reprising his role during an interview on ITV's Lorraine.
