Grantchester fans were thrilled this week as the ITV crime drama returned to screens for its ninth series. As the episode kicked off, viewers saw DI Geordie Keating (played by Robson Green) and Reverend Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) solving another murder.
However, excitement will soon turn to sorrow as the beloved Reverend is set to depart the village soon. Stepping into his shoes will be newcomer Alphy Kottaram (Rishi Nair), who will make an appearance in a later episode. Ahead of his debut, the actor spoke to Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley on This Morning about the show's future. He commented: "We've done season 10. We finished that about three or four weeks ago.
"So it's strange, I've done two seasons, and it's not even been out! Coming on here and talking about season nine, I'm like, 'What happened in season nine?' It was so long ago we filmed it. "I had to remind myself and make sure I'm not talking about anything in season 10 because my head is in season 10!".
The actor, who is best known for his role in Channel 4's Hollyoaks as Sam Maalik, has also appeared in the likes of Count Abdulla, Silent Witness and Whitstable Pearl. Making his first appearance in episode three, Rishi confessed he felt like the new kid at school when he walked on set. Detailing his first scenes, the actor revealed it felt as though he'd gone back in time.
