Legendary rocker Jon Stevens has opened up about his terrifying brush with death in 2009. The Noiseworks frontman's dramatic health episode began after a routine checkup uncovered a blocked artery which led to life saving open heart surgery. 'I'm very, very lucky, and very grateful, I distinctly remember lying in hospital going, 'I'm not going to meet my grandchildren.' I didn't have any grandchildren at that point!' he said.

The 64-year-old New Zealand-born rocker discussed the frightening health scare in a new interview in The Australian on Monday. Elsewhere in the chat he explained that just ahead of going into the operating theatre doctors had told him he was about to 'drop dead' and had only days to live.

He continued: 'I was elated because I was blessed that I found out [during a check up] and [I] didn't have a heart attack. Something bad didn't happen. It was actually the warning.'. Legendary rocker Jon Stevens has opened up about his terrifying brush with death in 2009. The operation that saved Jon life involved a triple by-pass in which surgery replaced his block arteries with healthy arteries. Jon, who is currently touring with Noiseworks, added that he has a message to his male fans who might be reluctant to keep a close on their health.
