A serious collision has forced the closure of the M11 motorway in both directions between Stansted Airport and Harlow this morning, causing major disruption for commuters. The incident occurred at 4.46am on the southbound carriageway near Stansted Airport, sparking a huge emergency response including an air ambulance, which landed on the northbond section. Essex Police are leading the response, with National Highways implementing diversions between Junction 8 (Stansted) and Junction 7A (Harlow). All emergency services remain at the scene.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "Traffic Officers and contractors are on scene and assisting with strategic closures on the approach.". Essex Police have warned motorists that the stretch is "expected to remain closed for some time" and are urging drivers to avoid the area. The force advised: "Drivers should check before travelling and plan their journeys accordingly.". The northbound carriageway was briefly reopened before being closed again to allow the air ambulance to land.

The website says: "M11 Southbound blocked, long delays due to accident, a Car and a Motorcycle involved from J9 (Saffron Walden) to J8 A120 Thremhall Avenue (Bishops Stortford).".
