Londoners could see ten days of sunshine as one of the gloomiest winters in years comes to a close. The capital is set for lengthy bright spells with plenty of wintry sunshine following a bleak start to the year, BBC Weather has said. The forecaster predicts London will get over a week of sunshine that will only be interrupted briefly by some drizzle on March 7.

A spell of heavy rain on Wednesday is expected to clear and bring sunny conditions until March 8. Meanwhile, temperatures could creep up to highs of 13C next Wednesday with the mercury expected to remain above zero on the remaining winter nights. Most commuters will finally be able to travel regularly to and from work in the sunshine, with sunrises at around 6.45am and sunset between 5.50pm.

The improved weather comes after London faced one of its gloomiest winters in years. At one stage earlier this month there was no sunshine for over a week in parts of the capital for the first time in nearly 50 years. Southern England experienced just over 1.5 hours of sunshine each day on average in 72 days of winter, the Standard previously reported.

But the poor weather finally appears to be clearing. The Met Office has also forecast a week of sun. Heavy rain on Wednesday will make way for a settled dry period, with sunny spells by day and overnight frost and fog likely, according to the forecaster.
