A major energy firm is offering thousands of customers eight days of free electricity over the next year. E.ON Next announced today that it will not charge customers for the electricity they use on all eight English bank holidays over the next year if they sign up for the firm's Pledge tariff this week. The discounts will cover all bank holidays between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

The offer covers all eight bank holidays across England and Wales. Scottish customers can still sign up for the deal, although it will only cover eight of its nine bank holidays, and it does include Christmas. The money-saving deal is available to both new and existing customers who sign up for the tariff between February 20 and February 27.

Next Pledge is a tracker tariff, currently priced at £1,688 a year for the average dual fuel household paying by direct debit. To compare, the current Ofgem price cap is £1,738 a year—and this is set to rise to £1,823 from April. However, the exact amount has to be confirmed by the energy regulator, who will do so on February 25. Currently, E.ON Next's tariff is £50 cheaper than the price cap. E.ON Next's Pledge tariff changes four times a year in line with the price cap - but will always remain under it, according to the energy firm.

E.ON Nexts says customers who sign up for the tariff should be expected to save £3.50 per bank holiday day, which is a potential additional saving of £28 if households remain on the tariff for a full year. This estimated savings is based on a typical household's annual usage of 2,700 kWh of electricity. The free electricity is issued as a bill credit to your account when you have signed up.

Julian Lennertz, Chief Commercial Officer of E.ON Next, said: “It’s widely anticipated that the Energy Price Cap will rise again in April, which will be concerning to households, and especially those already struggling to pay their bills. Beyond the savings customers already make through the Next Pledge tracker tariff, which is designed to remain below the price cap, we are pleased to be providing some extra help, particularly to those who may use more electricity than normal over the Bank Holidays.
