Two elderly people have died following a house fire on a residential street in a Welsh town. Emergency services were called to the scene of a fire in Adam Street in Abertillery this morning. A man and a woman, both in their 90s, died at the scene, it has been confirmed. Their next of kin have been informed and are receiving specialist support. A spokesman for Gwent Police said: "We were called to a report of a house fire in Adam Street, Abertillery, at around 7.55am on Sunday (February 9). Officers attended along with teams from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service.".
Detective Inspector Steve Davies said: "We can confirm that a man and a woman, both in their nineties, have died at the scene of the fire. Their next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are within that this time. "Following a joint investigation by Gwent Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the cause of the fire is not suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. We'd like to thank the community for their support.".
