Actor Mandy Moore has hit out at people criticising her over a fundraiser she's been promoting. Mandy, 40, announced earlier this week that her home in southern California has been damaged by the fires that have swept through the region. She's since shared a fundraiser for two relatives who she said have also been affected.
She posted on on her Instagram Story on Thursday that her brother-in-law Griff and sister-in-law Kit "lost everything" just weeks away from the birth of their first child. This Is Us star Mandy later posted that the couple "lost their home" and "everything they own" in the Eaton Fire. She included a link to a fundraising page for them in the second post and told her followers on the platform: "So many have reached out [over] how to help [them] and here's a way if you feel inclined".
Her promotion of the GoFundMe page has prompted some backlash, with critics questioning why she's asking her followers to help given her career. Mandy however addressed the criticism, and seemingly speculation about her net worth, in a post promoting the fundraiser on her page that same day.
She said: "People questioning whether we're helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe and I'm sharing because people have asked how they can help them." She added in the post: "We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.".
