Peace lilies, the perfect houseplants for experienced gardeners and novices alike, can bring a touch of elegance to any home with their stunning white or cream-coloured blooms that can last for an impressive duration. To ensure these plants flourish, it's crucial to meet their care requirements. Mike Futia, a gardening expert and the found of NerdLawn.com, explained the ideal conditions for peace lilies. He advised: "In terms of the best place to keep peace lilies, these plants prefer indirect light and high humidity.".
"They do not tolerate direct sunlight too well, as it can scorch their leaves." Mike recommends placing these beloved indoor plants near an east-facing window in a humid spot, like a bathroom, and warns against situating them in drafty areas to prevent leaf yellowing and wilting.
While peace lilies can survive in dimly lit rooms, they won't bloom or grow quickly under such conditions. They thrive in well-draining soil and benefit from monthly fertilisation during their growth period, reports the Express. As for watering, Mike highlighted that the "worst way" to water peace lilies is by letting the soil completely dry out before drenching them.
He cautioned: "This can lead to root rot, which can eventually kill the plant. It is also important to avoid getting water on the foliage of the peace lily, as this can lead to browning and yellowing of the leaves.". Instead, he advised that the "best way" to water peace lilies is to let the soil dry out a bit before giving it a good soak until water begins to drain from the bottom of the pot. Additionally, it's crucial to use water at room temperature to prevent shocking the plant.
