Matildas star Alex Chidiac has revealed the vile abuse sent to female footballers as one of her teammates faces suspension for lashing out at a fan who allegedly insulted her. Chidiac, a midfielder for A-League Women team Melbourne Victory, took to Instagram to share a shocking message she received from a man following her side's recent match against Western Sydney.

'You f****** lesbian d***,' the message began. 'I hope you get kicked in the c*** next game you piece of s***.'. Chidiac reposted the hateful message along with her own caption, writing: 'On our phones or in the stands, you and your abuse is not welcome.

The shocking revelation comes days after Matilda Natasha Prior received a red card for an incident that occurred during the Newcastle Jets' clash with Western United last Friday. Prior copped a red card for verbal abuse from the referee, who believed she had insulted a linesperson - when she and her club claimed was responding to an offensive slur said by a crowd member.
