Max George's loyal fans have begged the star for some clarity on his upcoming tour shows amid his health crisis. The Wanted star, 36, had his life turned upside down last year when he was admitted to A&E before undergoing emergency heart surgery. Since then, Max has been recovering with the help of his girlfriend and former EastEnders star, Maisie Smith. The Glad You Came hitmaker had a pacemaker fitted in his heart following the surgery, and he has been left with a huge scar on his chest.
The singer, who has been documenting his recovery on social media, recently revealed that he had to undergo a second emergency surgery after his pacemaker was fitted incorrectly. Since then, he was been laying show and resting. However, fans have become uneasy ahead of The Wanted's upcoming tour, and they are now begging for answers on whether he will joining his bandmates or not.
As The Wanted 2.0's tour dates edge closer, music fans have been left in limbo as to whether or not Max will be joining his bandmate Siva Kaneswaran at the Manchester Cathedral on February 27. The duo are set to perform as part of the Echoes 2025 series. However, fans of the pop group are now worried that the show may be cancelled due to Max's health struggles. Taking to X on Tuesday, they begged for answers from the singer as one questioned: "Of course Max's health is absolutely paramount, that goes without saying. But there needs to be an announcement made about this gig at Manchester cathedral. It's meant to be next week... They need to cancel/postpone it and let the fans know.".
Another fan replied: "We've got tickets but I think it's pretty obvious it won't be going ahead." While someone else added: "He's literally just had two heart surgeries. I highly doubt he'll be capable of getting up on stage and singing for an extended period of time guys." However, another hopeful fan chimed: "You never know, he could be well enough to perform. Let's cross of fingers and hope for the best. I've been really looking forward to this.".
It comes after Max posted a health update on Tuesday after having to undergo a second heart surgery. On Instagram, he shared that he had to go to hospital again to fix the issues, and admitted that he was going through a “pretty rough time.” The singer shared a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed with headphones on, with wires and monitors attached to his body. He then followed up with himself in a bathroom after the second surgery, showing a fresh scar on his chest underneath a tattoo of his late bandmate Tom Parker's date of birth.
Alongside the photo, Max wrote: “A few weeks ago I had to go back into hospital after having some physical symptoms in my chest. It turned out that one of the leads was placed too far into my heart. The second surgery took about 2 hours. Luckily, it was a success and they kindly let me listen to Oasis the whole time.
"It’s been a setback, but it’s just one of those things. I’ve had a few complications the last couple of months but I’m having loads of tests to make sure everything is all good. It can take a few weeks / months for the inflammation of my heart to subside (myocarditis) but I’m sure I’ll be back on top form in no time! Thanks everyone for all your lovely messages and support through what’s been a pretty rough time. Means a lot.”.
Last month, Max revealed that he needed further tests to investigate enlarged lymph nodes in his lungs, and was due to undergo a biopsy. In a recent interview, he shared that he’d been through the process, and that it was a gruelling experience. “The doctor did warn me there is a small chance that I could lose my voice. That was pretty worrying, but I decided I needed to take the risk. The biopsy was pretty gnarly, it’s a camera with prongs on the end that goes down your throat. It was painful. The recovery was tough, I had chest pain and was coughing up blood for five days,” he said.
