Maya Jama has insisted she's 'happy in the friendship zone' with ex-boyfriend Stormzy as the star moves on with footballer Rúben Dias. The Love Island host is said to be dating Rúben since last month, with the two pictured in public having a cosy New Year's Eve date. The 30-year-old presenter and the 27-year-old football star met at the MTV Europe Music Awards at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester on November 10, just a few months after her split from Stormzy.
Maya and Stormzy dated for several years until they shocked fans with their split in 2019. A couple of years later, in August 2023, they gave their romance a second chance but finally decided to call it quits last year. The duo shared a statement on social media telling fans that 'they tried, and it didn't work, and that's okay.'.
They also told fans they will 'always be friends' and in a recent interview, Maya admitted to being 'happy' being in the 'friendship zone' with her ex-partner. When asked whether there's a chance of them getting back together, Maya said: "No, I think we’re happy in this friendship zone.".
She said to The Guardian: “I think it’s nice that people love him for being cute and love me for being cute, and when two people you like come together then people get excited by it. That’s just what happens in the celebrity world, don’t you think?”.
Meanwhile, footie star Rúben recently appeared to confirm his romance with Maya after posting a photo of them together watching a sunset. The football star wore a hoody and trousers as he wrapped his arm around a woman wearing a skirt and trainers. Their backs were to the camera, so the woman's identity was concealed.
