Plymouth caused a major upset on Sunday afternoon as they beat Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Cup fourth round. Miron Muslic's side have endured a difficult season, with the Pilgrims bottom of the Championship and facing a tough ask to survive in the second tier - something that led to Wayne Rooney being sacked on New Year's Eve. However, they were brilliant at Home Park and Ryan Hardie's second half penalty gave them the lead.

The Reds put Plymouth under huge pressure late on, but some heroic displays helped to ensure that the hosts held on and secured a memorable victory. Several stars that shone are unknown to many football fans, but they have now written themself into Argyle and FA Cup folklore. In light of the cup shock, Mail Sport's AADAM PATEL has delved into the Plymouth heroes who shocked Liverpool. Plymouth caused a huge upset as they beat Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.

Plymouth were exceptional as they beat the Reds despite sitting bottom of the Championship. PLYMOUTH ARGYLE (3-4-2-1). GOALKEEPER: Conor Hazard, 26. No relation to Eden. Formerly of Celtic, with loan spells at Falkirk, Partick Thistle, Dundee and HJK Helsinki before moving to Plymouth in 2023. CENTRE-BACK: Maksym Talovierov, 24. Born in Russia and a Ukrainian international. The 24-year-old only joined Plymouth from LASK last week for a club record fee.

CENTRE-BACK: Nikola Katic, 28. Bosnian international who signed on loan from Zurich in January. Formerly of Rangers and the man-of-the-match on Sunday. CENTRE-BACK: Julio Pleguezuelo, 28. Spent time in his youth at Barcelona, before moving to Arsenal. Became the first Spanish player to play for Plymouth when he signed in 2023. Conor Hazard, who was once of Celtic and joined Plymouth in 2023, was superb on Sunday.

Former Rangers man Nikola Katic put in a Player of the Match performance at Home Park. RIGHT WING BACK: Matthew Sorinola, 23. Born in Lambeth and of Nigerian descent. Grew up in Fulham’s academy before moving to MK Dons. Joined Argyle last year. CENTRE-MID: Adam Randell, 24. Was in the Home Park stands when Liverpool came to Plymouth in 2017. Bar a season on loan at Torquay, the Argyle vice-captain has spent his career at Plymouth.

CENTRE-MID: Darko Gyabi, 20. Represented England at youth level. Signed by Manchester City from Millwall when he was just 14 in 2018 but left for Leeds in 2022 as he searched for more first-team opportunities. Played once in the Premier League for Leeds before moving to Argyle on loan in January 2024. LEFT WING BACK: Tymoteusz Puchacz, 26. Polish international, currently on loan from Bundesliga club Holstein Kiel after joining last month. Was in Poland’s squad for Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.

MIDFIELDER: Callum Wright, 24. Boyhood Liverpool fan who grew up on Merseyside, adoring Fernando Torres and went to the same school as Steven Gerrard. Was a Liverpool mascot at their Champions League semi-final against Chelsea in 2008. Darko Gyabi was signed by Manchester City from Millwall when he was just 14 in 2018. Matchwinner Ryan Hardie has played more than 200 games for Plymouth since joining in 2020.

FORWARD: Ryan Hardie, 27. Grew up supporting Rangers and made his debut for them in 2014. Represented Scotland at youth level and has played over 200 games for Plymouth, since his debut in 2020. FORWARD: Mustapha Bundu, 27. The Sierra Leone international has been in and out of the side for much of his time as a Pilgrim, since signing in 2023. In 2016, he playing in the 9th tier of English football with Hereford and four years later, he was playing for Anderlecht.

SUBSTITUTES. MIDFIELDER: Victor Palsson, 33. Captained Steven Gerrard in a Liverpool reserve team fixture in 2009 but was unable to make the breakthrough at Anfield. Argyle is the Icelandic international’s 10th club. MIDFIELDER: Malachi Boateng, 22. Only signed for Plymouth from Hearts last week. Played 28 times for Hearts after moving to Tynecastle from Crystal Palace last summer. FORWARD: Muhamed Tijani, 24.

On a season-long loan from Slavia Prague but the Nigerian has played a total of 126 minutes for Argyle this season after tearing his hamstring in October. FORWARD: Michael Obafemi, 24. Born in Dublin to Nigerian parents and played for Chelsea and Arsenal at youth level. The Republic of Ireland international is currently on loan from Burnley.
