‘I would like to thank drugs, ADHD, depression, anxiety, dyslexia, dyscalculia, insomnia, dyspraxia, a lack of self-awareness, a lack of self-worth, a fear of social interaction, body dysmorphia, addiction, alcoholism,’ he deadpanned on stage. Finishing his thank yous, he quipped: ‘And a lower than average sized penis.’. Referencing the full list, he joked ‘without which none of this film would be possible’.

The cheeky star ended his speech in a similarly lighthearted way, as he encouraged the locals to indulged him in a rendition of their most famous chant. ‘Listen, you’ve all sat for long enough, way too long, but for me, just one time, let’s take this home,’ he said. ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!’. ‘Oi, oi, oi,’ they roared back, as Robbie beamed and thanked them for their support. The Michael Gracey movie, which follows Robbie’s life before fame, as part of Take That, and as a solo singer, has been celebrated by critics as a subversion of the jukebox musical biopic.

Despite being popular with critics and audiences in the UK, reaching number five at the box office, international cinemagoers haven’t been convinced. Elsewhere, the film has been considered a box office bomb, grossing $1.1million (£908k) in the US. However, Robbie isn’t disheartened, and even has ambitions for a sequel with so much of his story left untold due to time restrictions. Speaking to Australian DJ Sean Brown, Robbie said: ‘There is so much that didn’t make the movie.

‘Only because we couldn’t fit it in – not because I was too embarrassed or ashamed to put it in… many stories.
