Manchester United's transfer inactivity this month has left Ruben Amorim frustrated. The Red Devils have yet to make a signing in January and have only seen loan exits for Ethan Ennis, Joe Hugill and Ethan Williams so far this month. Antony is expected to complete a move to Real Betis on loan for the rest of the season but United have struggled to facilitate a move for Marcus Rashford, while Alejandro Garnacho could yet depart Old Trafford.

It has been suggested that Amorim was not made fully aware of the club's financial situation when he agreed to join the club, report the MEN. Though, the outlet adds United sources claim the 39-year-old was provided a full breakdown of the club's position.

They say it was outlined that the days of spending in excess £200million every summer had ended. The ex-Sporting CP head coach was told that United would be required to sell players before being able to complete signings in the January window. That has seen the club arrive into the final 10 days of the transfer window with no new players for Amorim to work with. The club are said to remain adamant they would only sell players out of choice and not be pressured into exits however. For example, they would be particular in who they would accept, should Chelsea want to use one of their stars as a make-weight in a deal for Garnacho.

Amorim has previously acknowledged that United's hands are tied. Speaking in December the United boss accepted he was not going to be splashing the cash. "We don't have that possibility in January," he said. "You know the situation better than I [do]. It's not the case I am not arriving here and I can spend a lot of money, changing all the team. You know the situation so it's not a point to talk about it.".
