It has been revealed that a certain character has been ‘replaced’ as it’s announced that Community actor Joel McHale is set to join the cast of the beloved horror franchise. It was announced that in the upcoming film Scream 7, McHale is set to be joining the franchise as Sidney Prescott’s husband Mark Evans.

The news was deflating for fans as it ended the theory that Neve Campbell’s character had married her love interest – also named Mark – from the third movie, played by Patrick Demsey. In Scream 3, Sidney was dating Mark Kincaid, played by the actor best known as McDreamy in Grey’s Anatomy.

In the 2022 movie (the fifth in the franchise) Sidney mentioned a ‘Mark’ and many fans assumed that she was referring to Mark Kincaid. Alas, Deadline revealed that Sidney was in fact referring to a different Mark played by McHale rather than Demsey, effectively crushing fan theories.

Fans took to social media to share their disappointment, with some speculating that the producers deliberately led fans to think Sidney marriedMark Kincaid but were unable to get Demsey to return to the franchise. ‘I like Joel McHale, but they should’ve written Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) out rather than introduce a random new “Mark” and pretend that’s who they’ve been talking about for two movies. #Scream7,’ said.
