It’s the movie that gave us the iconic scene of Terry Crews singing along to A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton. And now, over 20 years after its release, White Chicks is finally getting a sequel. The beloved comedy flick first landed in cinemas in 2004, starring Crews, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Busy Philipps, and more.

Its plot follows two disgraced FBI agents, Kevin Copeland and Marcus Copeland (played by the Wayans brothers), who are assigned a new case where they must protect two cruise line heiresses from getting abducted. To do so, the two Black agents go undercover as white women by using whiteface to prevent the kidnapping plot from succeeding.

The film grossed $113million (£89m) at the box office and has truly stood the test of time, remaining quotable to this day. So when it was confirmed by one star that a second film was in the works, it’s safe to say people lost their minds. Attending the NAACP Image Awards this weekend, the Wayans family celebrated being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Speaking to Good Morning America at the event, 52-year-old Marlon said he is asked ‘every single day’, ‘When are you doing the sequel?’. ‘They love that movie,’ he said with pride. ‘I think it’s time,’ Marlon added, having previously acknowledged that fans ‘deserve’ more, believing it should’ve been a franchise.

‘Let’s get Scary Movie 6 done, then we’re gonna go bring out the White Chicks 2.’. The actor is currently working on upcoming horror spoof Scary Movie 6 with his brother. It has been confirmed that the film won’t be released until June 12, 2026, which means fans still have a while to wait for more White Chicks action – but hey, at least it’s happening!.
Taking to X after he issued the update, CaptLuffy__ wrote: ‘been waiting on this one forever, hope they bring that same hilarious energy back’. ‘Already reserved my theater seats because I’m sat!!!’, declared ClaudiaKite. User 01101101arMar said a sequel is ‘long overdue’ while Scopey_13Alt said they have been ‘waiting forever’.
‘Marlon Wayans really waited 20 years to deliver the holy scripts of Scary Movie 6 and White Chicks 2’, praised XenoVC. Echoing their thoughts, swimwiki2001 added: ‘White Chicks 2 and Scary Movie 6? We have never been more back that right now’.
However, diehard fans of the original have expressed concern, worrying that there’s a risk of ‘tainting its legacy’ in the remake. povhitssm wrote: ‘ngl im kinda scared abt what this sequel could end up being’. There’s no denying White Chicks has become a cult classic. Despite how loved it is on the internet, though, it actually only has a score of 15% on review platform Rotten Tomatoes.
The PG-13 comedy was actually branded ‘the worst movie of the year’ in 2004 by one critic, and averaged a rating of a measly 4.1 out of 10. Critics on RT slammed it as ‘predictable’ and ‘not funny’, which is a stark contrast to X users today saying they once ‘prayed’ for a second outing.
