A man has appeared in court after being charged with stalking Shirley Ballas over a six-year period. The Strictly Come Dancing judge, 64, is said to have suffered ‘persistent serious alarm or distress’ due to his alleged actions. Last week Kyle Shaw, 37, appeared at the South Sefton magistrates’ court in Bootle, Merseyside after being charged with stalking and a separate charge of possessing cannabis.

Shaw has been accused of ‘pursuing a course of conduct, namely sending messages online, which amounted to stalking causing Shirley Ballas serious alarm or distress’. The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2017 and 2023. The court also heard his alleged acts ‘had a substantial adverse effect on her usual day-to-day activities’.

During his appearance, Shaw didn’t enter any pleas, as reported by The Sun. The publication also said it is expected a claim will be made that he is not fit to enter a plea due to mental health issues. Prosecutor Angela Conlan said Shaw had been responsible for ‘persistent actions over a prolonged period’.

Shaw’s lawyer Sarah Ferguson said there were ‘significant issues that need explanation at this particular time’. ‘I’m not comfortable taking instructions. It is a fitness to plead issue. He is under the care of the Wirral mental health,’ she explained.
