When most of us head to the loo in the middle of the night, the worst thing to befall us is most likely to be a shortage of toilet paper - but in scenes straight out of a horror movie, one woman sadly got the fright of her life, when a snake bit her, while trying to spend a penny.
Maria Jaimes, from Cedar Creek,Texas, was minding her own business when she felt the call of nature at around 4:30am on Sunday December 15, and got up to use the bathroom. Given the time in the morning, she didn’t feel the need to turn the light on, and sat down on the toilet in the pitch black darkness.
However, within mere moments she came to regret that decision, as a rat snake was coiled beneath the toilet seat and promptly bit her after being disturbed. Recalling the incident on local news station KXAN, Maria explained: "I felt a little poke on my leg and I said, 'Something happened, my husband left something on the toilet.' So I then turn on the light and I see that there's a snake under my toilet.".
Despite the terrifying situation, Maria did manage to snap a photo of the encounter as proof it had taken place, as she went on to add: "As scared as I was when this happened, I am the one who took these pictures because no one would believe it! I just want people to be aware this happens in real life and to be aware.”.
According to Jaimes, she believes that the snake managed to find its way into her home via a vent in her roof, and has since instructed her husband to fit chicken wire across the vent to prevent anymore uninvited guests from making their way into her bathroom.
