Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has told how scaling back her time on X has helped her mental health. The Cabinet minister said that reducing her time on Twitter meant that she also better understood “what really matters to the country”. She was being questioned on the Friday morning media round about X boss Elon Musk wading intro British politics with a series of barbed attacks and claims.

Musk has been appointed by Donald Trump to co-lead a new department of government efficiency in his new administration which will take office on January 20. Ministers have gone out of their way to try to build bridges with Trump and his senior team despite scathing criticism in the past of the US president elect.

Ms Nandy told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “Of course, we will work closely with the US administration under President Trump, with key representatives including Elon Musk. “This country has always done that under successive presidents and prime ministers of different parties on both sides of the Atlantic.”.

Pressed on Musk’s attacks on Sir Keir Starmer on X, she added: “I don’t spend time on X any more, and it vastly improved my mental health as well as my ability to understand what really matters to the country. “He is free to say what he likes, of course he is as is anybody on social media as long as it is not harmful to others.”.
