THIS is the terrifying moment a thug blasted his rival with a shotgun in a drive-by shooting at a supermarket car park. Saabir Mohamed, 26, was captured peppering the victim with bullets in Smethwick, West Midlands. The would-be assassin had rocked up to the retail park in a stolen Ford Kuga with fellow thug Tyjon Cogger, 22.

The pair had spent the night driving around hunting for the victim, who was a rival gang member. Once they discovered him in the Farmfoods car park, Mohamed used a sawn-off shotgun to blast the man in the leg. He and Cogger then fled the scene - leaving the victim sprawled injured on the tarmac.

Mohamed was today jailed for 18-and-a-half years, while Cogger received a 20 year and eight month sentence after both admitted firearms offences. Birmingham Crown Court was told the attack was in revenge for Cogger's pal being stabbed just hours before the shooting.

After the victim was shot, an Audi picked him up and took him to hospital where he was targeted again. A gang of men armed with baseball bats attempted to force entry to his ward but police were already on the scene. The action was enough to scare the victim into silence and he refused to give evidence.

But West Midlands Police trawled through CCTV and managed to track down the assailants. Footage showed the moment the pair were arrested at gunpoint with green laser dots trained on their bodies. Detective Inspector Francis Nock, from our Major Crime Unit, said: “Officers worked extremely hard to piece together what happened and spent hundreds of hours reviewing CCTV footage.
