FRIDGE smells are not only horrible every time you open the door - it can also be hard to track down the stinky offender. But thanks to one household ingredient, you don’t need to worry about this any longer. So if you've been noticing a whiff in your fridge, you've come to the right place. Cleaning expert Manish Jain, who owns Ministry of Cleaning, has hailed bakinh soda as the perfect natural freshener.

He said: "Baking soda has been used as a household cleaning hack for many years and works wonders when it comes to fridge smells. "It works by absorbing excess moisture and smells including sulfur-based and acidic scents which commonly come from rotting food!. "The best thing about it is that baking soda doesn’t just mask unwanted smells but neutralises them. "All you have to do is place an open pot of the powder or a bowl of baking soda into your fridge.".

For extra strong smells, you can even combine baking soda with water to create a cleaning paste that can be used to wipe down fridge walls and shelves. Sprinkling some of the powder into your fridge drawers will also pick up excess moisture - which could be the culprit of lingering smells. You can pick up baking soda for as little as 65p in the likes of Asda, making it a very affordable hack. But to maintain effectiveness, be sure to replace the baking soda every 30 days, as it loses its odour-absorbing properties over time.

And the trick isn't just restricted to your fridge as the bargain buy works just as well around the home - and even in your car. So, you can wave goodbye to that musty and stale smell from spilt coffee, general dampness and fast food remains in your motor. Manish says: "Grab an old sock or another breathable container, fill it with baking soda and tie with a rubber band. "You can then place this pouch in your car, either under the seat or in the cup holder.

"The baking soda works to remove any unpleasant smells, quickly and effectively. You could even add essential oil to the pouch for extra freshness.". For smells that are really strong, sprinkle baking soda on car mats and seats. Just be sure to leave for 10 minutes and then vacuum. Cheap and effective, baking soda is a great way to keep your fridge and car clean and smelling fresh", Manish concludes. "And it means you don’t need to purchase expensive cleaning products and worry about harsh chemicals and the impact they might be having on your items.".
