Cleaning the oven door can be a real pain, especially when greasy stains get burned into the surface. But there's a simple solution to get it gleaming again. While white vinegar and baking soda are often touted as natural cleaning products, they're not always up to the task of tackling stubborn grease stains. Instead, Catherine Wrench, an eco-cleaning guru from Planet Friendly Living, suggests using washing soda (also known as soda crystals) for a highly effective, natural way to banish grime from your oven.

Catherine explained: "The beauty of using washing soda to clean your oven is that no noxious chemicals are released in the process.". She added: "This makes it a much healthier option than commercial oven cleaners, particularly if you suffer from allergies or respiratory complaints, or have young children in the vicinity.".

Washing soda is highly alkaline, which means it can break down and dissolve acidic stains such as fat, oil, burned food particles and grease. It softens baked-on grime so you don't have to spend ages scrubbing at your oven door, reports the Express. Baking soda is slightly alkaline and could work to break down stains but may require a lot of elbow grease. However, when mixed with white vinegar, it won't work since vinegar is acidic.

Not only is washing soda natural and great at removing tough stains, it's also cheap - just £2 at ASDA. Here's how to clean your oven door with washing soda. To concoct a homemade surface cleaner, just grab an empty spray bottle and add one tablespoon of washing soda with 500ml of warm water. Ensure the lid of the spray bottle is secure before shaking well to dissolve those washing soda crystals fully.
