American actor and professional wrestler, The Rock, has issued a heartwrenching statement after losing his beloved dog, Hobbs. The Hollywood star, 52, real name Dwayne Johnson, told fans he was "numb" over the loss as she shared an adorable montage of himself larking around with a black and white French Bulldog.

Admitting he didn't know how to process the loss of his pet, who died on Monday, he took to Instagram, sharing: "I’ve been numb over this loss, but we’re so grateful for every ounce of pure love he gave our entire family and we’re so grateful he didn’t suffer long as he quietly and bravely left in the night.

"Lately, there’s been a lot that’s too big to talk about. Lonesome, lonely, heard it’s all the same. Not sure how spirits work but come back and visit every once in a while so we can get in trouble and laugh again.". Responding to the post, the actor's legion of loyal fans sent their condolences, with one replying: "Very sad. They are family members" as another shared: "All dogs go to heaven". Meanwhile, a third praised the star for speaking candidly about his emotions, as they declared: "Respect to The Rock".

In November, the 6ft 4 star paid tribute to another late family member after the release of his film, Moana 2. The Rock took to Instagram to explain how the movie holds special meaning for him, revealing that his character, Maui, was inspired by his grandfather, Peter Maivia, a Samoan wrestler and actor, who passed away in 1982 at the age of 45.

While driving home after the release, Johnson posted the video for his 395 million followers. He said: "As you know Moana has a deep personal connection to me because it’s our people. It’s our Polynesian people, it’s our Polynesian culture and it’s our Polynesian representation up on the big screen around the world.

“It’s so humbling and I’m so grateful. I want to say thank you so much for the amazing response and in addition to Moana being deeply personal, another layer of it being so personal, I think many of you know, the character that I play, Maui, was inspired by my grandfather, the late High Chief Peter Maivia, who’s buried here in Hawaii, on diamond head along with my uncle, Nef, my auntie, Ola and my grandmother, Lia Maivia.

“Everything I say as Maui, every word, every action, I’m living in my grandfather’s skin and you just feel the mana. You really feel the power and spirit and that’s why it’s so deeply personal to me and I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you to everyone around the world, enjoy Moana, keep enjoying Moana, thank you for your feedback and have a happy and grateful thanksgiving, I appreciate you guys so much.".
