Celtic have been slapped with TWO UEFA charges following their Champions League clash with Aston Villa. The Scottish giants travelled to the Midlands last month for their final game in the league stage of the competition. A host of supporters travelled, with some allegedly lighting pyrotechnics and throwing them during the game. There were fears that fans would face bans as a result. But UEFA have now announced two charges for Celtic, with the club also ordered to pay a €10,000 fine for throwing of fireworks by their fans at Villa Park. A statement from UEFA read: "The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has taken the following decision.

"Match: Aston Villa FC vs. Celtic FC (4:2), 29.01.2025, UEFA Champions League 2024/2025. Charges against Celtic FC: Lighting of fireworks, Art. 16(2)(c) of UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR). Throwing of objects, Art. 16(2)(b) DR.". Celtic eventually fell to a 4-2 defeat on what was a dramatic meeting between the two sides. Morgan Rogers hit an early brace, with Adam Idah hauling Celtic level before the break with two strikes of his own.

Ollie Watkins put the hosts back in front on the hour, with Rogers sealing his hat-trick in stoppage time at the end of the game. The win secured Aston Villa the final automatic qualification spot for the last 16. Meanwhile, Celtic finished 21st in the standings but still did enough to seal a spot in the playoffs where they will take on German giants Bayern Munich. Speaking after the game, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers said: “It’s a brilliant game to be involved in. The word that strikes me at the moment is pride. "Coming to a team that over the last couple of years has been at the highest level in the Premier League, and obviously it’s the same in Europe. We played with so much courage in the game, we actually start well, we show confidence and authority with the ball, and then within a few minutes they get the first goal, a quick second goal.".

Celtic are back in action this weekend as they take on Raith Rovers in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. Meanwhile, Villa are also in cup action over the coming days as they take on fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
