As Los Angeles continues to suffer under the unprecedented destruction of multiple wildfires, the the California Department of Foresty and Fire Protection has issued an urgent warning to residents of Southern California as life-threatening winds bring even further danger to those living throughout the county.

The warning was issued at 2:20pm local time (or 10:20pm GMT) which indicated a critical red flag warning was in effect, that urged residents to be “ready to go” should conditions worsen. In a post shared online, CAL Fire wrote: "Southern California is facing critical fire weather through Wednesday. Life-threatening winds and dangerously low humidity are forecast for much of Southern California - from Ventura to San Diego - creating a significant risk of rapid fire spread. The winds will cause increased fire activity.”.

In addition, they also gave a number of tips to help minimise the destruction, such as avoiding mowing or trimming dry grass on windy days, not parking on dry grass, completely extinguishing campfires and reporting any signs of suspicious activity to try and prevent arson.

The organisation also reiterated that state resources -- augmented by out-of-state and country help -- stand ready to respond to try and tackle the blazes and minimise the risk to both lives and properties. So far, 16 people have died in the California wildfires, with a further 16 people currently missing. Additionally, more than 10,000 homes have been destroyed, with multiple people displaced as they were forced to evacuate ahead of the worsening fires.
