Officers said an extensive search is underway involving specially-trained police, mountain rescue teams and the coastguard. Authorities are focusing on the running trails she frequently uses in the area. Sniffer dogs were also brought out in a bid to find the young woman, but conditions have been challenging due to the weather.

Durham Constabulary said more than 100 miles of track have already been covered in the Teesdale area alone. The force is appealing for any information that could help locate Jenny, saying: ‘Behind the scenes, digital intelligence officers have conducted extensive enquiries into Jenny’s mobile phone, smart watch and running apps but none have yielded any results unfortunately.

‘Jenny is described as white, 6ft tall and has very long dark hair. Her family have now confirmed she may have also been carrying a green jacket and had her hair up in a ponytail.’. Officers said they are ‘increasingly’ concerned for her well-being, and continue to look into all clues.

Police also said they are thankful for public officers to help in the search, but asked individuals to not assist as it could ‘hamper the systematic search’. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk. For more stories like this, check our news page.
