A gardening expert has urged people not to leave patios dirty over the winter. The TikToker, who goes by the name of ‘@Qwickhose’ online, has explained that: “With harsher weather bringing in dirt and debris, your patio needs more care in the winter months to keep it looking good.” Adding that it’s important to take winter patio care seriously.
They explain that it’s best to ‘wash it now and then’ and explain that: “The best way to keep it clean is to get rid of dirt and loose debris with a pressure wash.” However, they also caution that when it comes to pressure washing a patio, it’s important to ‘make sure to keep the nozzle over 1 foot away from the paving stone’ as otherwise the power of the water may cause damage to your patio.
@Qwickhose also explains that it’s vital to take the time to get rid of weeds. They explain that: “Weeds germinate over winter before reaching their full growth in spring.” That’s why it’s so important to ensure that you ‘stay on top of weed prevention’ over the colder winter months, to protect your patio from an explosion of weeds when the warmer weather hits.
They also add that it’s important not to salt your patio and explain: “If your patio is slippery or snowy, don’t use salt on it.” They go on to say that salt is abrasive, which can lead to damage occurring on the stone’s surface. Instead, they recommend trying to use ‘a thin layer of sand to melt the ice’, rather than using salt.
