Some fast food fans are buzzing as this month will see the return of the viral chocolate chicken created by YouTube stars - which has divided opinion. Last year, people could not wait to try the Nashville fried chicken treats from Sides - which has won 'Emerging Chicken Brand' - after millions were talking about them online. Previously, the chocolate chicken tenders appeared on ITV's Lorraine where former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas said, "oh my this unbelievable", and host Lorraine said "oh my God, so good".
The viral chocolate BBQ chicken, created by YouTube's Sidemen, was available for a limited time - and now it is making a comeback from February 4. Fans can visit a Sides chains in east London, Wembley, Essex, Kent, West Midlands, or Manchester, or order food to be delivered. Available alongside their burgers, tenders, wings, and bites, chocolate chicken pairs tender, juicy chicken with a rich, velvety chocolate BBQ sauce – "a flavour combination that has fans hooked from the first bite," a spokesperson for Sides said. But eager fans will be able to get their hands on this unique menu item for a limited time only - which has sparked debate online.
Phil Neale, Marketing Director of the Sidemen, said: "We were blown away by how much love SIDES Chocolate BBQ Chicken got last year. The balance of sweet and savoury pairs so well with SIDES’ range of top quality chicken, and the rich cocoa notes add a unique depth of flavour to every bite. "It made so much sense to bring Chocolate Chicken back onto the menu again this year - it's bold, it's unexpected, and yet it works so well. If we see the same love for Chocolate BBQ that we saw last year, maybe it could become a permanent fixture on our menu...".
A man who dubs himself 'the doctor of food' - and boasts over 242,000 followers - reviewed the treat last year and said: "Chocolate and chicken sounds like an odd combo but it works so well together. The chicken was so crunchy too. You need to get yourself down to Sides and try it out. This is chocolate and chicken done right.". Another food reviewer, known as @Kylevfood, shared their take on TikTok and said: "It honestly wasn't that much of a chocolate taste it was more of a sweet barbecue. But, overall I must say it was very, very nice.".
Jon The Food Don said: "My taste buds were made confused. I could taste more chocolate than I could barbecue sauce but the strips themselves were absolutely peng leng. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it.". "This feels like something I mix after school when my parents aren't home," commented one. "I want to try," said another fast food fan. Commenting on Sides TikTok channel, one individual said: "That looks nice." Another said it is "the best chicken I have ever had".
