The popular ITV drama Vera is set to wrap up after 14 series, with the final two episodes filmed over the summer by lead actress Brenda Blethyn and her co-stars. The feature-length mysteries are scheduled for broadcast on New Year's Day at 8pm, followed by the second episode on Thursday, January 2 at the same time on ITV1. However, Brenda confessed that leaving the show was a "hard decision", but ultimately the right one for her and her family. She anticipates she'll "probably cry" when she doesn't head to north east England to film 'Vera' in March.
The 78 year old actress, who portrayed detective Vera Stanhope, left the show after 14 years to spend more quality time with her family. She admitted she'll likely shed a tear early next year when she isn't making her usual trip to shoot the programme. She said: "It was a hard decision, and come March, when I would normally be getting ready to go back up there, I'll probably be crying. As much as I loved all that, I've got a family at home and I realised I hadn't had a summer for 14 years with my family. So I still did another series because I couldn't drag myself away. But anyway it was time, that's all," reports OK!.
There's speculation that the show's main character, DCI Stanhope, could meet her end in the final episode. Despite the series ending, fans can find comfort knowing that Vera won't immediately vanish from screens following the finale. Fans of the gritty detective series Vera can breathe a sigh of relief, as we can officially confirm that the two upcoming episodes aren't the final goodbye to our beloved detective. The New Year will bring not only the closure with these new installments but also a tribute to the show's decade of success with a spin-off documentary titled 'Vera, Farewell Pet,' set to air on Friday, January 3, following the last episode's premiere on Thursday.
