Like many families across the UK, mother-of-three Lisa Arterton was fed up with feeling the effects of the cost-of-living crisis. With a mortgage on their home in Cheshire about to double and spiralling food and energy costs she and husband Edward were working longer hours and spending less and less quality time with the kids.

But all this changed when the family moved to Costa Blanca in Spain. Now the family who ‘have never been happier’ say their only regret is not making the move sooner. In fact – Lisa is so happy with their new life that she is urging other UK families to make moving abroad their New Year resolution.

Therapist Lisa, husband Edward, 42, a fitness and nutrition coach and children Lucia, 9, Hugo, three-and-a-half and 15-year-old Ellie, Lisa’s daughter from a previous relationship, moved to Costa Blanca in Spain last year in October 2023. Their mortgage is now half of what it was in the UK and they’ve gone from paying £400 a month for gas and electricity in the UK to paying £130 every eight weeks.

It costs 1,200 Euros a year in total to send both their daughters to private school, and  more importantly the family are now able to enjoy quality time together. Lisa, a therapist said: ‘The cost-of-living crisis played a huge part in our decision to move abroad.
