A January 6 Capitol riot protester who was pardoned by President Donald Trump was fatally shot just days later. Matthew Huttle, 42, resisted arrest during a traffic stop on an Indiana state road near the Pulaski County line around 4.15pm on Sunday. ‘An altercation took place between the suspect and the officer, which resulted in the officer firing his weapon and fatally wounding the suspect,’ stated Indiana State Police.

The officer who shot Huttle has been placed on administrative leave as per the agency’s protocol, and their identity has not been released. ‘For full transparency, I requested the Indiana State Police to investigate this officer involved shooting,’ stated Jasper County Sheriff Patrick Williamson.
‘Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased as any loss of life is traumatic to those that were close to Mr. Huttle.’. Huttle was one of more than 1,550 people who were charged in the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol. The individuals who breached the Capitol building in an attempt to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s election victory were pardoned by Trump last week.
A journeyman carpenter, Huttle and his uncle went to Washington, DC, and recorded video as he broke into the Capitol building. Huttle pleaded guilty to entering and remaining in a restricted building in August 2023 and was sentenced to six months behind bars.
