Good news for bargain hunters in the capital as Aldi has announced it’s opening nine new shops within the M25. The German retailer is spending £55million in London to open new shops or upgrade existing branches. It’s part of Aldi’s long term plan to open 100 more shops in the capital, which it says will create about 3,500 new jobs.
They’ve only announced four of the new locations so far, with Wimbledon in south west London, Fulham in west London, Orpington in south east London and Caterham on Surrey-London border all getting a new branch of Aldi this year. Plus, some of its existing shops, including the Colindale branch, will be receiving upgrades or extensions.
This is all part of Aldi’s plan to invest £650million in the UK this year. Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: ‘We strongly believe that everyone in Britain should have access to high quality food at our unbeatable Aldi prices.
‘But we know that there are still thousands of shoppers in the capital that don’t yet have access to an Aldi nearby. ‘We don’t think it’s fair that so many people still have to make do with big prices at other supermarkets, which is why London continues to be a real focus for us as we work to bring even more Aldi stores to shoppers across the capital.’.
News of the expansion comes as Aldi recorded its best Christmas ever in 2024. The supermarket opened 11 new branches across the UK in the weeks leading up to Christmas, including Sedgley in the West Midlands, Castle Douglas in Scotland, and Totton in Hampshire.
