Newly appointed West Brom manager Tony Mowbray has shared a heartwarming message he received from Manchester United star Amad, who he previously managed during a successful loan spell at Sunderland. The pair played a key role in leading the Black Cats to the Championship play-off semi-finals in the 2022/23 season, with Amad scoring 14 goals and being named the PFA Championship Fans' Player of the Year. Despite a challenging loan spell at Rangers, Amad revitalised his career under Mowbray's guidance at the Stadium of Light and has since become a crucial player for United.

However, he hasn't forgotten the significant role Mowbray played in shaping his career. When Mowbray was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year, he received an outpouring of support from the football community. Now fully recovered and back in management with West Brom for a second stint, Mowbray highlighted the touching message he received from Amad amid his impressive performance streak for United.

"Those lads do keep in touch with me, it is amazing," Mowbray told West Brom's official YouTube channel, when asked about maintaining contact with members of the Baggies side he led to Premier League promotion in 2007/08. "I sometimes sit and think 'this is amazing'. Even lads I managed at Hibernian keep in touch and from the job before this one.

"I hope it is because we treated them well, helped them in their career and they grew into good footballers and we played a part in it. "So if it is just a text to say: 'Gaffer, I heard you're not well. I wish you and your family all best'. Just little pick me up messages from people from 20 years ago. It is amazing really because they don't need to and yet they do.
